Happy Independence Day!

Happy Independence Day!

It was a very soggy one here, so we didn't get to do the traditional outdoor things.  We did have a lovely quieter day though.   Started with church, where Bookgirl and I served in the nursery, and the boys were in the service with Daddy.   After lunch and a quiet time, we listened to this great book and cdset I bought at convention.  Take Your Hat Off When the Flag Goes By  It teaches respect for the flag, the founding of the country, the Declaration of Independence, even the checks and balances system.  It uses the book along with catchy songs on the cd.  My kids really liked it - but of course we've loved everything we've gotten from http://www.thelearningparent.com/

Since it was so rainy and then humid and soggy, we decided to forgo our usual fireworks in the park.  Instead, Daddy, ran to the store and got some "fireworks" we could set off at home.  Well it turns out the kids seemed to like that even more than the big fireworks!  2 of our kids aren't fond of the noise, so that might be why.  Anyway, they were really excited by the simple fireworks Daddy set off.
